Abhijeet Dipke ended his hunger strike : Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke ended his hunger strike on Monday after activist Sonam Wangchuk urged him to conserve his strength for the movement. Moments later, Dipke joined thousands of supporters marching towards Parliament, turning the protest into one of the biggest demonstrations of the ongoing campaign against alleged examination paper leaks.

IBN24 News Network : Dipke had been fasting in solidarity with Wangchuk, who remains admitted to Safdarjung Hospital after being shifted from the Jantar Mantar protest site due to health concerns. The appeal to end the fast was conveyed by Gitanjali Angmo, educator and Wangchuk’s wife, from the protest stage. Following her announcement, Dipke broke his fast by drinking juice before joining the march.
Protest March Gains Momentum
The Parliament march drew a massive crowd as students and young supporters from across the country gathered in Delhi. Dipke and Angmo were seen standing atop a slow-moving vehicle leading the procession, while protesters walked alongside chanting slogans demanding accountability over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations.
Among those participating in the march was the father of Riya Kumari, a NEET aspirant whose death by suicide had sparked widespread public attention.
During the march, Dipke repeatedly raised the slogan calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, reflecting the central demand of the protest.
Government Opens Door for Talks
As the march progressed, CJP leaders indicated that the government had initiated contact for discussions.
Party leader Saurav Das said representatives Ashutosh Ranka and he were heading to meet Union Minister J.P. Nadda after the government expressed willingness to hold talks.
According to Das, the organisation’s demands remain unchanged despite the dialogue, and the protest was temporarily paused while the meeting took place.
Why Did Abhijeet Dipke Start the Hunger Strike?
Dipke began his fast on Saturday after Delhi Police removed Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site at Jantar Mantar and admitted him to Safdarjung Hospital. Police cited Wangchuk’s deteriorating health and directions from the Delhi High Court for the decision.
Wangchuk has been on a 21-day hunger strike, leading the CJP campaign demanding action over alleged leaks of competitive examination papers, including the NEET-UG exam. The protesters are also seeking the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging failure to ensure transparency in the examination system.
Tight Security Across Delhi
With Parliament’s Monsoon Session beginning on Monday, security arrangements across central Delhi were significantly strengthened.
Authorities deployed around 2,000 paramilitary personnel equipped with riot-control gear and tear gas, while Delhi Police sought an additional 1,400 officers to manage the growing crowd. Several layers of barricades were installed around Parliament to prevent protesters from entering the high-security zone.
As a precaution, five Delhi Metro stations were closed to the public, leading to disruptions in travel across parts of the capital.
Protest Leaders Appeal for Peace
Ahead of the march, CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka addressed supporters from the stage, urging them to maintain discipline and keep the demonstration peaceful.
He instructed participants to limit their slogans to patriotic chants and demands related to the protest, while cautioning them not to react to any attempts at provocation.
Ranka emphasized that the movement had remained peaceful over the past month and said the organisers intended to continue the march in the same spirit.
What’s Next?
The protest has now entered a crucial phase, with thousands of students participating on the streets while government representatives have agreed to hold discussions with CJP leaders. Whether these talks result in any concrete action remains to be seen, but the movement has intensified pressure on the government as Parliament begins its Monsoon Session.
For now, Abhijeet Dipke has ended his fast, but the campaign demanding greater accountability in India’s competitive examination system continues with renewed momentum.
